Describe the materials used, the forming processes, attributes, and the treatments used by Glock.

The brand of firearm I have chosen to discuss this week is Glock. The quality controls Glock manufacturing uses would be hard to beat. Where some companies cut costs by using inferior metals for things like their slides, Glock only uses high quality steel that is inspected by their metallurgical department. An example of a company who cut costs and used an inferior metal is Walther. The P22 model firearm has a recuring issue of having the slide crack so we did some digging. Because of its smaller caliber the company thought they could use cheap pot metal for their slides. What they thought would save them money in fact ended up costing them more because of the number of warranties and repairs they deal with due to this cheap metal. When Glock purchases the raw materials used for their firearms, they will not accept materials that do not meet the standards set forth by their company. In other words, even the raw materials are inspected before they can use it for production.

Glocks polymer reduces weight while promising durability, corrosion resistance and easy maintenance. Their polygonal barrel was designed to provide exceptional performance and a better “bullet-to-barrel fit.” Glock also uses advanced surface treatments and they compare its durability to that of diamonds (though not quite as durable). Finally, Glocks magazine construction uses an internal metal frame with a durable polymer coating to ensure that the magazine is corrosion resistant and remains very durable if dropped during use or training.

Glock does everything from tool making to machining every part themselves in-house Instead of outsourcing cheaper parts to reduce costs and increase profits. Glock hammer forges, mills, turns, stamps and performs their own injection molds themselves. Each department is responsible for each component, and they follow strict quality management and environmental management standards to ensure that the firearm you purchase is some of the best on the market. Say what you want about Glock firearms but in the end, it is a firearm you can be confident will work when you need it most.
