Explain the difference between swaging with a reloading press and using a swaging press.

One of the biggest differences between swagging with a reloading press and using a swagging press is that the swagging press is specifically designed to do the job and the reloading press, though with the right attachments is capable of doing the job, is a tool meant for a different purpose. It would be like using a small flathead screwdriver as a punch. Yes, it may push the pin but because that was not its original design or purpose, something was just damaged or broken.

An advantage I see with using a reloading press with dies meant for swagging is that the one tool has just become two. Another would be that I am saving money not having to purchase the second tool, the swagging press. Disadvantage would be that a tool used twice as much, wears out in half the time compared to one that was kept to its original intent.

I feel like it is really important to use the right tool for the job in any case. I believe anyone who has spent a number of years doing this professionally will admit that in a pinch you find what gets the job done and you move on to the next task. Though this may or may not be the case, everyone knows that the right tool always makes the task 10 times easier.

I believe the who would pick what option is really dependent on the type of person is looking to get into this. If you are the type of person who wants benchrest quality bullets than you are also probably the type of person who would buy the right equipment to do so. But if you just want reasonable quality bullets and are working on a budget, you also might be the person to buy the R suffix dies and repurpose your reloading press to get the job done.
