National Requirements for a Business to Obtain Firearms Licenses

The national requirements for a business to obtain firearms licenses include several requirements. To start the individual applying for an FFL must be at least 21 years of age. The person also cannot be prohibited from possessing a firearm. Finally, don’t lie or fail to disclose any information on your forms and have a location where you plan to operate your firearms business out of that meets the needs of the FFL. In other words, do you have the means to secure your firearms and do you understand the requirements for a firearms sale or transfer.

The requirements for obtaining a firearms license in your state, county, and city are similar but with a few differences depending on the location you plan on opening your firearms business. For example, if the city or county you are opening in does not allow the manufacture of firearms in their local area then you would be prohibited from that specific licensing. It is important that the individual applying to the ATF for an FFL send a copy of their application to local law enforcement for approval and notification purposes. The future business cannot conduct business until local law enforcement and the ATF have reviewed the application and have inspected the potential location for a means to secure firearms on the property. If the individual applying for an FFL gets approved by the ATF for the FFL, then the business has 30 days to comply with local law enforcement requirements before opening the doors for business.
