Reflect on the advantages and risks of offering “jeweling” services at a gunsmith’s shop.

Well, I can say I had fun looking this one up and to answer the last question first, yes, I do believe it is worth spending the money to add this service to my shop. Now, like anything else you do it is worth spending a little more up front to get the right equipment for the job. I was able to find things like the Wheeler brand Jeweling fixture that was incredibly cheap and selling for around $35 for the fixture but it had some pretty bad reviews. However, after watching a few Midway USA videos on YouTube I noticed they were using the Indexing Spin Jigs 5C Drilling Mill Lathe Grinding Collet 5C Fixture Drill. This tool runs at about $90 depending on where you look and is a much better tool that is built to last a lifetime of work. After that I found a deluxe jeweling kit on Brownell’s for another $90 and this came with the abrasive rods and other componence to do the job right. Add to the cost the sandpaper needed to prep the surface and you only invested about $200 to do some amazing work. Please note this did not include the cost of the drill press used to do the work but if you’re like me this may be something already in your inventory of tools. I don’t think everyone with a bolt action rifle is looking to have this work done but the ones who do understand the value, craftsmanship and style this brings to a well finished rifle.
